The island has an area of ​​278 km² and approximately 3100 inhabitants. It consists of many small villages and settlements, mainly located in the island’s interior.The island’s extensive and complex road network leading to the villages, beaches and tourist attractions makes a vehicle indispensable.From Platia Ammos in the north to Kapsali in the south it is 33 km. From Avlemonas in the east to Mylopotamos in the west it is 17 km.
The island’s diversity can only be explored by car. Public bus service, if it exists at all, is limited to July and August and operates on an infrequent schedule.
