Sea salt – Fleur de Sel
Sea salt – Fleur de Sel – salt flowers from Kythira is truly something special! The island has a long tradition of salt production, especially in the coastal areas where seawater evaporates in shallow basins, leaving the salt behind. Particularly in the rocky southeastern and western parts of Kythira’s coastline, you can find small stone salt pans that have been used for centuries.
The salt from Kythira is often described as particularly pure and aromatic, as the pristine Mediterranean coast and warm climate impart an intense flavor. It is not only used in local cuisine but is also frequently offered as a gift or souvenir to visitors.
